TOP-10 DOWN LADY PACERS IN TENNIS ACTION
BLATTES AND HUMPHREY GET LONE WIN AT #3 DOUBLES

AIKEN, S.C. -- Marianne Blattes and Stephanie Humphrey earned a victory at #3 doubles, but visiting #9 Clayton State (7-0, 5-0 PBC) was too tough in beating USC Aiken (5-5, 2-3 PBC) 8-1 in Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis action at the USCA Tennis Courts. The sophomore Blattes and the freshman Stephanie Humphrey improved to 3-4 at #3 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Viktoriya Semyrodenk and Kristina Jonutyte. The Lakers won the other two doubles matches, including #4 Anna Redecsi and Julia Chergova defeating Kristin Hunter and Brittany Telford 8-2 at #1 doubles.

On the strength of three ranked players, Clayton State swept the six singles matches. At #1 singles, 15th-ranked Anna Redecsi downed Kristin Hunter 6-2, 6-2. #47 Julia Chergova convingly defeated Mathilde Grenet at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Blattes put a strong fight against #42 Semyrodenk, battling back after dropping the first set 7-6 to win the second 6-2. Blattes lost the third-set 10-point tiebreak, 10-3. The other three matches were all straight-set Laker wins.

USC Aiken returns to action on Friday, March 7, hosting Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt match.
