USCA EVENS PBC MARK WITH 7-2 WIN OVER LANDER
FIVE SINGLES VICTORIES SEND LADY PACERS TO FIRST LEAGUE WIN
AIKEN, S.C. -- USC Aiken (3-2, 1-1 PBC) posted five straight-set wins in singles play and cruised to a 7-2 victory over visiting Lander (3-1, 2-1 PBC) in Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis action Sunday afternoon at the USCA Tennis Courts. Victories at #1 and #2 doubles gave the hosts an early 2-1 lead. Kristin Hunter and Brittany Telford downed Anni Pajunen and Fernando Oliviera 8-4 at #1 doubles. Sophomore Mathilde Grenet and Maria Soledad Angel had a convincing 8-2 voctory over Ana Luiza Zaia and Kristinanne Emanouil at #2.
With the lead, the Lady Pacers dominated singles play. Hunter had the easiest match at #1 singles, dismissing Oliviera 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Marianne Blattes won 6-2, 6-0 at #4 singles. In the closest match in singles, Angel got past Luiza Zaia 7-5, 6-3 at #6 singles.
USC Aiken will take a few days off before traveling to Milledgeville, Ga., on Friday for a 2:00 PM match at Georgia College & State.
