WILSON, N.C.--USC Aiken’s women’s tennis team competed in the Division II Wilson/ITA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships this weekend in Wilson, N.C. The event was hosted by Barton College. Juniors Dominique Cassetori and Otavia Bastos both advanced to the round of 32 in the “A” draw. Nicole Copp won her way to the “A” draw consolation quarterfinals.

Cassetori defeated Mariana Shimoda of Mount Olive College (7-5 and 6-2) before falling to North Florida’s Yevgeniya Barysheva by a score of 6-2 and 6-0.

Copp lost to Luisa Cowper of Armstrong Atlantic State University (6-0, 6-0) in the opening round and fell into the consolation bracket. The Goddard, Kan., native beat Jessica McKnight of Georgia College & State University (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) in the consolation first round and then beat UNC Pembroke’s Natalie Dies (6-0, 6-3) in round two. Copp’s run came to an end in the quarterfinals, falling by a score of 6-1 and 7-5.

Both USC Aiken doubles teams lost in the first round but made it to the second round of the consolation bracket. Cassetori and Mayra Kaefer defeat Ellen Dawson and Julie Mages of Erskine College, 9-7, before losing to Wingate’s Courtney Luce and Alexis McDaniel, 8-6.

Copp and Bastos used a first round bye to advance to round two where they lost, 8-6, to North Florida’s Melody LeGoff and Robin Rogers.

The Lady Pacers will finish off their fall season on Oct. 15-17 when they participate in the NTC Tournament hosted by Augusta State University in Augusta, Ga.
