 AIKEN, S.C.--Georgia College & State
University (4-2-0, 1-0-0 PBC) scored two second-half goals en route to
a 3-1 win over USC Aiken (3-2-0, 0-1-0 PBC) in women’s Peach Belt
Conference soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Aiken. It was both
teams’ conference opener.
Meredith Moran (5) got the Lady Bobcats on the board in the 10th minute knocking
in a pass played forward from Tami Pissott. Despite being outshot 20-5 for the
match, however, the Lady Pacers would keep it a one goal contest heading into
the final third of the match.
Moran struck again in the 64th minute to make it 2-0, and then in the 82nd minute
of play, Sarah Plymale put the game out of reach when she lofted a shot over
goalkeeper Jacquelynn Hart’s reach from 15 yards out to make it 3-0 GC&SU.
Under the hot afternoon skies with the temperature exceeding 95 degrees, the
Lady Pacers kept pushing and avoided a shutout with freshman Lauren Myers’ first
goal of the season with 25 seconds to play, beating keeper Michelle Parr.
Hart finished with 11 saves for USC Aiken while Parr stopped two shots on goal
for the Lady Bobcats.
USC Aiken will host Division I Charleston Southern on Wednesday, September 21
at 5:00 PM. Georgia College & State University returns to Milledgeville,
Ga. to host Shorter College on Saturday, September 24 at 7:00 PM.
