LAURINBURG, N.C.--Junior midfielder
Melissa Schnoering scored a pair of goals while freshman keeper Jacquelynn
Hart notched her first shutout as USC Aiken (2-0-0) rolled to a 4-0 win
over St. Andrews (0-2-0) in women’s non-conference soccer action
at Knights Field. The Lady Pacers are off to their best start since the
1998 squad opened the season 7-0-0 en route to an 11-5-0 mark.
Schnoering (4) got USCA on the board early, banging home a Robin Smith ricochet
off the cross bar in the third minute of action. Junior Natasha DaCosta (2) made
it 2-0 Lady Pacers in the 22nd minute, beating the Saint Andrews defense and
taking goalkeeper Rita Brown one-on-one.
Newcomer Kristi Desrosiers (1) knocked in a loose ball in front of the net off
a corner kick attempt in the 29th minute to make it a 3-0 USCA advantage at the
break.
In the second half, Schnoering scored for the second time in the contest in the
73rd minute off a Desrosiers cross to set the final margin at 4-0.
USC Aiken held a dominating 25-3 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner
kicks.
Hart recorded one save in posting the shutout for the Lady Pacers. Brown made
12 saves for the Knights allowing four goals.
USC Aiken returns home to host McMurry University on Monday, September 12 at
7:00 PM. McMurry, an NCAA Division III school out of Texas, is coached by former
Lady Pacer standout Christy Cousins who ranks third on the all-time scoring list.
