AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken (1-0-0) grabbed a two-goal first-half advantage and held on for the 4-2 win over Anderson College (0-2-0) in women’s non-conference soccer action on Thursday evening at “Pacer Pit”. It was the inaugural game under new USCA head coach Susan Vodicka. Having won the last four meetings with the Lady Trojans, USC Aiken is 4-1-0 all-time in the series.

After a near scoreless first stanza, the Lady Pacers put two in the back of the net in the final three and a half minutes before intermission. Natasha DaCosta (1) took a long cross in from Melanie Byars to beat goalkeeper Amanda English in the 42nd minute for the 1-0 lead. Freshman Robin Smith (1) fired a rocket from straight-on, 15 yards out with just over 30 seconds left in the half to make it 2-0.

Anderson showed life in the opening minutes of the second half, tightening the game up with Allison Patton’s (1) goal off a corner kick in the 53rd minute, trimming the deficit to 2-1.

Junior Melissa Schnoering (2) answered with the first of her two second-half tallies in the 64th minute on a rebound goal in front off Jaclyn Mascarin’s shot.

Larrisa Fedorowich again made it a one-goal match with under eight minutes remaining scoring off a pass from Clary McCord, but Schnoering banged home Andrea Lloyd’s cross in the 85th minute to seal the win 4-2.

Freshman Jacquelynn Hart recorded five saves, allowing two goals in the win. English stopped four shots on goal while surrendering four goals.

USC Aiken will play at St. Andrew’s in Laurinburg, N.C. on Tuesday, September 6 at 2:00 PM. Anderson returns home to host Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00 PM.
