AIKEN, S.C.--As rain showers
fell intermittently at Pacer Pit, the Falcons of Pfeiffer University
(9-4-0) scored three times en route to a 3-0 win over USC Aiken (3-8-0)
in women’s non-conference soccer afternoon on Wednesday evening.
Pfeiffer moves to 2-0-1 in three all-time meetings with USCA after the
two teams tied 2-2 in 2004.
Kathryn Carswell (1) slipped behind the defense and lofted one over keeper Jacquelynn
Hart’s reach in the sixth minute of play to put Pfeiffer in front 1-0,
but the Lady Pacers settled down and played the Falcons even for the next 55
minutes.
Pfeiffer controlled the scoring opportunities in the first half 9-3 and finished
with an 18-7 edge for the match. In the 60th minute, Maria Reis (1) knocked home
her first tally of the season on a direct kick from 30 yards out. Michelle Vaudrieul
(6) added an insurance marker in the 85th minute to set the final margin at 3-0.
Hart recorded seven saves in net for USC Aiken while Jennifer Lindow and Mary
Kathryn Mason combined for two saves and a shutout in goal for Pfeiffer.
The physical matched had 40 fouls whistled and two cautions issued.
USC Aiken will try and snap its 451-minute scoring drought on Saturday, October
8 when the Lady Pacers will play at Armstrong Atlantic State at 1:00 PM in a
Peach Belt Conference contest. Pfeiffer returns home to host Erskine College
in a CVAC match, also on Saturday, at 2:30 PM.
