AMERICUS, Ga.--Jodi Kulinitch
set a school record and tied a Peach Belt Conference mark by scoring
five goals as the USC Aiken women’s soccer team earned their first
victory of the 2004 season, beating Georgia Southwestern, 12-0, yesterday
in Americus, Ga. The Lady Pacers (1-4-2) also got three goals from Audie
Beckman and two from Jen Mascarin. USCA out-shot GSW (0-9-0), 29-2.
Beckman began the scoring parade just over two minutes into the match when she
scored off a Mascarin pass. Kulinitch then took over, scoring four times in the
next eight minutes of play to put the game away.
Beckman scored again at the 22:29 mark and Mascarin sandwiched her two goals
around a score by Natasha DaCosta to give the Lady Pacers a 9-0 lead at halftime.
Mascarin, a junior from Komoka, Ontario, assisted on the first three goals of
the match for a total of seven points.
After Beckman added her third goal of the game 12 minutes into the second period,
Kulinitch notched her record-breaking fifth goal at the 62-minute mark. Three
former Lady Pacers shared the school record of four goals in a match. Katie Lawrence
against Southern Wesleyan on Oct. 3, 2001, Christy Cousins versus Anderson on
Sept. 3, 1998 and Jackie Francois against Mount Olive on August 30, 1997 were
all outdone by Kulinitch, whose 10 points also broke Lawrence’s school
mark for points in a game. Lawrence accumulated nine points against Southern
Wesleyan.
The junior from London, Ontario, now shares the Peach Belt Conference scoring
record with Francis Marion University’s Katie Roberts who netted five goals
on two separate occasions.
Simone GoPaul’s first collegiate goal ended the scoring at the 65-minute
mark.
DaCosta led USCA with nine shot attempts. Amanda Faulknham attempted seven shots.
Jennifer McHenry and Rachael Oloyede accounted for Georgia Southwestern’s
two shots.
Senior Shannon Hobbs earned her first shutout of the season after playing all
90 minutes in goal for USC Aiken.
The Lady Pacers return to Peach Belt play on Saturday when they host the
University of North Florida at “Pacer Pit.” The match is scheduled
to begin at 1:30 p.m.
