LAKELAND, Fla.--USC Aiken’s
women’s soccer team fell to Florida Southern College, 5-1, tonight
in Lakeland, Fla. The Lady Pacers (0-2-2) allowed three first period
goals and never climbed back into the game. Mindy Dymon recorded a hat
trick with three goals and added two assists on her way to breaking the
Florida Southern (1-2-0) record for points in a match with eight.
The Moccasins dominated play throughout the match, outshooting the Lady Pacers
by a 23-5 margin and taking 12 corner kicks to the USCA’s none. The scoring
started at the 20:05 mark when Dymon sent a free kick to the back post that Becky
McQuain knocked in for her first goal of the season.
Dymon then went on to score the next three goals on her own. She added two more
in the first period and the third came just seven and a half minutes into the
second frame.
USC finally broke through when freshman Melanie Byars was fouled inside the box
and converted the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.
Amanda Wetherbee’s goal, assisted by Dymon, with 1:44 remaining in the
match set the final score.
Shannon Hobbs played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Pacers. The senior
allowed the five goals and made seven saves. Kim Fish played the entire match
for Florida Southern, making two saves and allowing one USCA goal.
After three consecutive road matches, USC Aiken will return home for a Wednesday
game with Catawba College at 7:00 p.m., at “Pacer Pit” on the USCA
campus.
