AIKEN, S.C.--Sophomore Natasha DaCosta headed an Amanda Faulknham pass over the reach of Lady Bearcat goalkeeper Katherine Duncan in the 106th minute of play to lift USC Aiken (2-11-2, 1-6-0 PBC) to the 2-1 win over Lander (6-6-4, 1-4-3 PBC) in Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer action on Wednesday night. In halftime festivities, the Lady Pacers honored seniors Shannon Hobbs, Jenny Collier, Audie Beckman, and Faulknham.

With the win, USC Aiken snaps their seven-game losing streak and improves to 4-1-3 all-time versus Lander.
Nicole Bulinsky got the Lady Bearcats on the board in the 20th minute off an Ali Linnemann feed to take a 1-0 lead at the break. The Lady Pacers, however, countered early in the second half as Faulknham knotted the score at 1-1 in the 55th minute. The 5-4 senior from Sumter, S.C. lofted a shot over the head of Duncan from 25 yards out.

Despite controlling the majority of the scoring chances and holding a 15-7 advantage in shots at the end of regulation, senior keeper Shannon Hobbs kept the Lady Pacers in it. She finished with seven saves in 105 minutes of action to pass Kellie Young (1998-2000) by two on the school’s all-time saves list with 253.

After a scoreless first overtime period, DaCosta headed in the game winner with just under five minutes remaining as the Lady Pacer sidelined erupted with celebration.

Duncan made five saves on the evening while allowing two goals for Lander in net.

USC Aiken will play at Georgia College & State University on Saturday, October 30 at 7:00 PM. Lander closes out its 2004 regular season and will await play in next week’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
