AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken ended
its three-match scoreless streak, but fell to Columbus State University,
3-2, today in a match-up of Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer
teams in Aiken, S.C. Columbus State (3-6-4, 1-3-2), playing its first
season of women’s soccer, saw Amy Summerlin record the program’s
first hat trick by scoring all three Lady Cougar goals. Jodi Kulinitch
scored both goals for the Lady Pacers (1-11-2, 0-6-0 PBC).
Summerlin began the scoring just over 31 minutes into the match when she
scored from the top of the box. USC Aiken answered with just 1:47 remaining
in the first period when Kulinitch scored on a header off of a free kick
by freshman Jaclyn Mascarin.
The Lady Cougars wasted no time taking the lead back in the second period.
Summerlin scored an unassisted goal just over three minutes into the second
frame to give CSU a 2-1 advantage. Her third goal came at the 60:31 mark
and proved to be the game winner.
Kulinitch brought USC Aiken to within one goal when she headed in a goal
off of a free kick again, this time by Andrea Lloyd. The Lady Pacers couldn’t
push across the tying goal in the final 20 minutes of action and the score
remained 3-2.
Columbus State held an 11-9 advantage in shots. Summerlin led all players
with five shot attempts. Kulinitch and Amanda Faulknham recorded three
shots each for USCA.
Shannon Hobbs stopped six shots in goal for the Lady Pacers. Elise Carlo
did not record a save in 90 minutes of play for CSU.
The Lady Pacers return to action on Wednesday for their final home match
of the 2004 season. USC Aiken will host Lander University beginning at
4:00 p.m.
