NEWBERRY, S.C.--Newberry College
scored a goal in the first period and two more in the second period on
its way to beating the USC Aiken women’s soccer team by a score
of 3-0 today in Newberry, S.C. The Lady Indians got a goal and an assist
from Brooke Tumblin on their way to improving to 12-4 on the season.
The Lady Pacers (1-10-2) lose for the sixth straight game and suffer
their seventh shutout in their last nine matches.
Adriana Farfan scored at the 1:13 mark, off of a pass from Tumblin, to
give Newberry the early 1-0 lead. Tumblin knocked in a goal at the 70:48
mark and Genene Bowers scored with just 2:29 left in the match to set the
final score.
The Lady Indians held an 18-3 advantage in shots. Caitlyn Tooley came off
the bench and attempted a game-high five shots for Newberry. Melanie Byars
led USCA with two shots.
Shannon Hobbs stopped eight shots in 90 minutes of play in goal for USC
Aiken. Danielle Beckerle got the shutout for Newberry, but did not have
to make a save in her 90 minutes of play.
The Lady Pacers will step back into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday
when they host Columbus State University at “Pacer Pit” on
the USCA campus. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
