WINGATE, NC--USC Aiken’s women’s
soccer lost, 4-0, to Wingate University today in Wingate, N.C. The Lady
Pacers fall to 2-5 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 8-2 overall.
Annie Hoecherl assisted on two goals for Wingate.
Laurel Shirey started the scoring at the 30:15 mark of the first period. Allison
Wehunt’s goal three minutes later gave Wingate a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs
added two more scores, by Kelly Munchel and Veronica Acosta, in the second period
to seal the victory. Munchel finished with four shots, three shots on goal and
one goal.
Natasha DaCosta’s (London, Ontario) three shots led the Lady Pacers. Wingate
held a 14-7 shot advantage. Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) played all
90 minutes in goal for USC Aiken, stopping eight shots and allowing four goals.
Alissa DiDonato and Erica Ruppert each played one period in goal for the Bulldogs
to combine for the shutout. Each goalkeeper was credited with one save.
The Lady Pacers step back into Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday when they
travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a match with USC Spartanburg. The teams will
face off at 4:30 p.m.
