AIKEN, SC--USC Aiken defeated visiting
Brewton Parker College, 2-1, today in non-conference women’s soccer
at “Pacer Pit” on the USCA campus. Beth Johnston’s
(London, Ontario) penalty kick in the 86th minute led the Lady Pacers
to their second win of the season against three defeats. The Lady Barons
fall to 1-7-0 on the season.
It appeared as if the match was going to be a shootout as the two teams
combined for two goals in the first two minutes of play. Brewton Parker
struck first with Erin Bower’s goal at the 1:01 mark. Jodi Kulinitch
(London, Ontario) tied the game 42 seconds later with her second goal of
the season. The teams then remained knotted until Johnston broke the tie
with 4:20 left in the match.
The Lady Pacers had plenty of chances to put the game away. USCA out shot
the Lady Barons 26-3 but couldn’t get past Brewton Parker goalie
Michelle McRaven. McRaven finished with 14 saves including saving Jen Mascarin’s
(Komoka, Ontario) penalty kick at the 27:49 mark of the first period.
Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) played all 90 minutes in net for
the Lady Pacers. The junior allowed one goal and came up with two saves.
USC Aiken steps back into conference action on Saturday when the Lady Pacers
travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to battle North Florida. The match will begin
at 5:00 p.m.
