AIKEN, SC--USC Aiken’s women’s
soccer team earned its first win of the season by beating Mount Olive
College, 7-0, tonight at “Pacer Pit” on the USCA campus.
The Lady Pacers improve to 1-1-0 on the season while the Lady Trojans
fall to 2-3-0 overall. USC Aiken continues its two game home stand on
Saturday with the 2003 Peach Belt Conference opener against Francis Marion
at 1:00 p.m.
Amanda Faulknham (Sumter, S.C.) beat the Mount Olive goalie from 10 yards
out, 22 minutes into the game, to give the Lady Pacers a 1-0 advantage.
Natasha DaCosta’s (London, Ontario) score, 13 minutes later, sent
the home team to the locker room with a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second period Jodi Kulinitch (London, Ontario) and Audie Beckman
(Sioux Falls, S.D.) each scored their first goals of the season. Faulknham
and DaCosta added their second goals of the match to put USCA in front
6-0. Jen Mascarin (Komoka, Ontario) closed out the scoring with her second
goal of 2003.
Junior Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and sophomore Amber Markley
(Lexington, S.C.) combined for the shutout. Hobbs played 55:40 in goal
and saved Mount Olive’s lone shot on goal.
The Lady Pacers out shot Mount Olive 28-2 and held a 19-1 advantage in
shots on goal. Kulinitch recorded a match high six shots. Jessica Capps
and Barbara DuBois accounted for the Lady Trojans two shots.
