MONTEVALLO, AL--USC Aiken lost to the University
of Montevallo, 4-1, yesterday (Wednesday) in a non-conference women’s
soccer match in Montevallo, Ala. The Lady Pacers fall to 0-1 on the season
while the Lady Falcons improve to 1-2 in 2003.
Jen Mascarin (Komoka, Ontario) got USC Aiken off to a good start by scoring the
team’s first goal of 2003 just over four minutes into the game. Junior
Audie Beckman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) assisted on the play.
The Lady Falcons answered six minutes later with the first of three first period
goals. Elisa D’Alessio tied the game with an unassisted goal against Lady
Pacer goalkeeper Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).
Two more Montevallo goals sealed the win. Candice Flow gave the Lady Falcons
a 2-1 lead at the 37:17 mark and Alissa Thurmond scored with just 50 seconds
left in the period. Flow added her second goal of the night eight minutes into
the second period and the Lady Pacers went scoreless in the second frame.
USC Aiken will open the home portion of their 2003 schedule on Sept. 7 when they
host Mount Olive College at 5:00 p.m., at “Pacer Pit.”
