GREENWOOD, SC--USC Aiken’s women’s
soccer team fell, 2-1, in double-overtime to Lander University today
(Saturday) in Greenville, S.C. Becky Lauver’s second goal of the
game in the 104th minute of action gave the Bearcats the victory. USC
Aiken falls to 2-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference.
Lander improves to 6-4-0 on the season and 2-2-0 in league play.
Lauver’s first goal at the 21:05 mark gave the Bearcats a 1-0 first
period lead. Jen Mascarin (Komoka, Ontario) tied the game with less than
14 minutes
to play.
Both teams went scoreless in the first overtime period. Lauver took a pass from
Ashley Timmerman and beat USCA goalkeeper Shannon Hobbs (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.)
to end the game.
Hobbs saved 10 shots in 104 minutes of action. Lander held a 19-12 advantage
in shots. Bearcat goalkeeper Katherine Duncan also played the entire game and
saved seven shots.
The Lady Pacers will be in action on Wednesday when they return to “Pacer
Pit” after a four game road trip. USC Aiken will host Queens University
of Charlotte beginning at 6:00 p.m.
