LEGG EARNS PBC ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
USC AIKEN JUNIOR GUARD LED LADY PACERS TO SHARE OF PBC CHAMPIONSHIP
AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken’s Meredith Legg was named to the 2007-08 Peach Belt All-Conference women’s basketball team, officials announced last week at the 2008 PBC Tournament hosted by USC Aiken at the Convocation Center. Lander’s Tiara Good was named the PBC Player of the Year for the second-straight season while Dominique Huffin of GCSU was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. Legg becomes the Lady Pacers’ 18th All-Conference selection in the 18-year history of the Peach Belt Conference.
The 5-9 guard from Huntersville, N.C. led USC Aiken (20-8, 13-7 PBC) to its third Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Championship, but first since 2001-02. The Lady Pacers posted their seventh 20-win season.
Legg led the team and finished fifth in the PBC in scoring at 17.0 ppg. The premiere shooter in the region knocked down 99-of-240 three-pointers for an average of 3.54 per game, tops in the league and second best in Division II. Once again, Legg led the PBC in free throw shooting connecting on 60-of-67 attempts for 89.6 percent.
In scoring nine points on February 20 at Lander, Legg became the sixth-member of the 1,000-point club at USC Aiken. Ironically, it was one of only six games this year in which she did not have double figures. Legg recorded nine 20-point games, tied for the fourth most in the conference, including 28 in a win at Columbus State on January 29. She would earn her first-ever PBC Player of the Week nod for that performance.
A 2008 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second-Team selection, Legg scored a career-best 29 in a February 13 win over Division I foe Presbyterian College.
With 229 career three-pointers, Legg is already the school’s all-time leader and will need just 30 threes in her senior campaign to become the top all-time long range shooter in Peach Belt Conference history.
