LEGG NETS FIRST PBC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
JUNIOR GUARD MARKS LADY PACERS' SECOND SELECTION THIS SEASON

Meredith LeggAIKEN, S.C.-- USC Aiken’s Meredith Legg has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.  The 5-9 junior from Huntersville, N.C. scored a career-high 28 points in leading the Lady Pacers (10-3, 4-3 PBC) to a big conference road win at Columbus State 75-61 on Saturday.  (PHOTO BY: Scott Webster)

With her first selection, Legg becomes the program’s ninth Player of the Week honoree.  Joining teammate Morgan Johnson, the November 26 Player of the Week, it marks only the second time in the 18-year history of the PBC that USC Aiken has landed two selections in the same year.  Julie Szabo (February 24) and Jami Cornwell (January 21) accomplished the feat in 2002.

On Saturday, Legg abused the Lady Cougar zone to the tune of 7-of-11 from outside the three-point line.  In single-handedly keeping the Lady Pacers in the game, Legg’s tremendous first frame consisted of scoring 23-straight points during a 13-minute stretch.  USC Aiken trailed 40-31 at the half.

Columbus State switched out defenses in the second half to limit Legg’s opportunities, but in turn allowed the rest of the Lady Pacers to get involved.  Legg finished 8-of-14 from long range for a career-best 28 points.  It was her fourth 20-point game in the past seven outings.  The eight treys are the third most made threes in the league this year and only two shy of the school and conference record.  She also helped the team tie a single game record for threes, converting 14-of-24.

Legg also grabbed seven rebounds to go with one assist and one steal as USC Aiken notched the program’s 500th all-time win.

The junior sharpshooter currently ranks sixth in the Peach Belt Conference in scoring at 15.9 ppg.  She is first in free throw percentage, second in three-point field goal percentage, eighth in three-pointers made, and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio.

USC Aiken will take on archrival Augusta State tonight at 5:30 PM at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.  The Lady Pacers will try and win their third-straight game and avenge an early season 71-59 at the hands of the Lady Jaguars back on November 28.
