FLORENCE, S.C.--USC Aiken (0-1) got double-digit
kill performances from four players and combined for 17.0 total team
blocks, but their rally came up just short in falling 3-2 to California
(Pa.) (4-0) in the Lady Pacers’ season opener. USCA was scheduled
to play Lenoir-Rhyne later in the evening, but the match was postponed
to a later date. Game scores were 30-19, 30-16, 29-31, 26-30, and 15-8.
Sophomore Amanda Timm rang up 13 kills and hit .464 totaling 15.0 points. Veronica
Seidle had 14 kills and 12 digs while newcomer Katie Baker had 13 kills and Laura
Williams registered 10 kills and six blocks.
Rachel Dalitz and Cheryl Barcas combined for 53 assists while Hayden Johnson
posted an impressive 35 digs in her Lady Pacer debut.
As a team, USC Aiken hit .190 against the Vulcans, who participated in last year’s
NCAA Tournament. California (Pa.) took games one and two before the Lady Pacers
rallied to win the next two and force a decisive game five.
USC Aiken will travel to Hickory, N.C. next weekend, September 2-3, to compete
in the Lenoir-Rhyne Tournament. The Lady Pacers will face North Carolina Central,
Slippery Rock, and Pfeiffer.
