PEMBROKE,
N.C.--USC Aiken (9-9, 4-2 PBC) hit a season-high .407 led by middle
hitters Mandy Gerolstein and Laura Williams in rolling past UNC Pembroke
(7-15, 2-4 PBC) 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action on Saturday
afternoon in Pembroke, N.C. Game scores were 27-30, 30-21, 30-13, and
30-18. The win gives USCA head coach Will Condon his 100th victory
(MANDY GEROLSTEIN PICTURED).
Gerolstein registered a match-best 25.0 points on 16 kills and a career-high
12 blocks. Already the conference’s leading hitter, the sophomore from
Millersville, Md. posted an incredible .800 hitting percentage. Williams was
equally impressive recording a match-high 17 kills to just one error on 26 attacks
for a .615 percentage.
Sophomore right side Missy Deardorff added 13 kills and seven blocks hitting
.407 while senior setter Rachel Dalitz chipped in three kills, two aces, four
digs, and 43 assists.
Rachelle Milbank paced the Lady Braves with 11 kills and two service aces. Sarah
Harrison tallied 10 kills and three blocks hitting a team-best .600. UNC Pembroke
hit .245, had four service aces, and 5.5 blocks. USC Aiken added 10 service aces
and 13.0 blocks to their excellent hitting percentage.
UNC Pembroke took game one 30-27, but after the Lady Pacers settled down, they
stormed back to take the next three. After hitting .270 in game one, USCA posted
a .469 hitting percentage over the final three sets.
USC Aiken has now beaten the Lady Braves five-straight times and hold a 30-7
advantage in the all-time series. With the win, the Lady Pacers keep pace in
the PBC race holding on to at least third-place.
USCA will step outside of conference play next weekend as they travel to Winter
Park, Fla. for the Rollins/South Region Challenge. USCA will take on St. Leo
and Florida Tech on Friday, October 14 and then face the host Rollins Tars on
Saturday at 5:00 PM.
