AIKEN, S.C.--Mandy Gerolstein recorded
14 kills and five blocks while Jenny Lloyd added 10 kills and five blocks
as USC Aiken (19-10, 6-4 PBC) rolled to a 3-0 win over archrival Augusta
State (2-23, 0-10 PBC) on Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference volleyball
action. Game scores were 30-12, 30-14, and 30-26. The Lady Pacers take
all three matches with Augusta State this season and improve to 26-6
in the all-time series. The Lady Jaguars dropped their 12th consecutive
match.
In pregame festivities, USCA honored seniors Jessica Lane, Brandi Gayle, and
Jenny Lloyd playing in their final home contest.
Lloyd tallied 10 kills and five blocks in limited action, but still extended
her PBC record to 87 career matches with double-digit kills including 30-straight.
She also rang up three of the team’s 13 service aces. Gayle had eight digs
to go with a career-high five aces. Lane chipped in a team-high nine digs.
Laura Williams hit .583 in notching eight kills and three blocks while the reigning
PBC Specialist of the Week, setter Rachel Dalitz, served up three aces to go
with five digs, five kills, and 38 assists.
Katie DeGreeff and Ashley Abrams each had seven kills to pace the Lady Jags.
Brooke Elder added five kills while Halley Flynn registered four kills and two
blocks. USC Aiken hit .333 for the match while holding ASU to just a .076 hitting
percentage.
A quick start to game one found USCA leading 9-1 keyed by a pair of Gerolstein
kills. Ahead 21-11, the Lady Pacers closed out the game on an 8-1 run to win
going away 30-12. Lloyd had seven kills in the game.
In game two, Augusta State rallied back from an early 12-4 hole to pull within
striking distance at 18-14. But behind the strength of Gayle’s serve including
four aces, the Lady Pacers rattled off the game’s five 12 points to win
30-14.
Game three was tied 4-4 until the Lady Pacers broke out to a 13-5 advantage
following a pair of Lady Jag hitting errors. Flynn capped a 5-0 ASU spurt
with a kill to pull her team within 16-11. Play would remain close the remainder
of the way with the Lady Pacers winning 30-26. All 12 active players on USCA’s
roster saw action in game three.
USC Aiken will travel south for a big Peach Belt Conference weekend. On Friday,
October 29, the Lady Pacers will play at #25 Armstrong Atlantic State at 7:00
PM. Augusta State will play at #8 North Florida, also on Friday at 7:00 PM.
The teams will swap opponents on Saturday for a pair of 3:00 PM contests.
