AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken (18-10, 5-4 PBC)
got a combined 39 kills and 48.5 points from senior Jenny Lloyd and freshmen
Veronica Seidle and Mandy Gerolstein in posting a key 3-0 win over rival
USC Upstate (12-11, 5-4 PBC) on Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference
volleyball action. Game scores were 30-19, 30-26, and 30-25. The Lady
Pacers snapped a two-match losing streak to the Spartans.
Lloyd, who entered the match leading the PBC and ranking 11th in Division II
in kills per game at 5.17, recorded 16 kills to go with 15 digs, two blocks,
and one ace while hitting .389. The senior captain from Fife, Wash. extended
her conference record to 85 career matches with double digit kills including
29 straight. With 502 kills on the season, Lloyd becomes the first player in
PBC history to reach the 500-kill plateau in two separate seasons.
Seidle hit .500 registering 13 kills, 14 digs, and one block for 15.0 points.
Gerolstein chipped in 10 kills and a team-high five blocks including three solo
blocks. Setter Rachel Dalitz recorded 43 assists, 10 digs, and four of the team’s
eight service aces. As a team, USC Aiken hit .331 while holding USC Upstate to
.121.
Stephanie Coff paced the Spartans with 12 kills and 11 digs hitting .289. Mandy
Rupert added nine kills and eight digs for 10.5 points. Setter Shannon Pallardy
had 30 assists to go with five digs.
In game one, Gerolstein keyed a 6-0 run with three kills and a block as the Lady
Pacers broke open a 19-17 game to surge ahead 25-17. Seidle was perfect with
five kills and a 1.000 hitting percentage as the Lady Pacers won 30-19.
Game two was about as tight of a game as can be played with 14 ties and six lead
changes. Neither team led by more than two points until the Lady Pacers’ decisive
5-0 run turned a 26-25 deficit into a 30-26 win. Lloyd had three kills during
the spurt while Laura Williams recorded one of her two solo blocks on the day.
Game three was decided by a 6-0 USCA run midway through the contest. Knotted
up 14-14, a pair of Gerolstein kills sandwiched the six-straight Lady Pacer
points as USCA grabbed the 20-15 advantage and finished off the 30-25 victory.
USC Aiken will host rival Augusta State on Wednesday, October 27 at 7:00
PM for “Senior Night”. The Lady Pacers are 25-6 all-time versus
the Lady Jags including having won the last three meetings. USC Upstate will
step
out of conference play to host Newberry on Tuesday, October 26 at 7:00 PM.
