AIKEN, SC--USC
Aiken head volleyball coach Will Condon has announced the sixth member
of his 2003 recruiting class, Brandy Johnson. The 5-11 middle hitter
signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and will enter USCA as a freshman
in the fall. She joins freshmen Laura Williams, Liza Rose, Nicole Flemming,
Cheryl Barcas, and junior Janice Clark.
Johnson is a Corona, California native and product of Santiago High School and
head coach Arlin Elvick. Aside from her high school playing days, Johnson was
a member of the Mavericks club team.
“Brandy will help us tremendously. She will give us some more size and
give us the ability to move some people around on the court,” said Condon. “She’s
got a clean, quick armswing and puts some pop on the ball. She has good ball
control. I see her as one of those rare middles that can play all the way around.”
Johnson now joins sophomores Amy Long and Rachel Dalitz on the Lady Pacer squad
from the Southern California area. Long was named All-Conference in 2002 and
the Peach Belt Conference Co-Freshman of the Year amassing 375 kills and 10 double
doubles.
USC Aiken finished 14-18 in 2002 including a 6-8 mark in the Peach Belt Conference,
tying for fourth place. Condon, 57-40 in three seasons as head coach, loses just
one senior off last year’s team.
USCA is a member of the NCAA Division II and the Peach Belt Conference. In 12
years of conference volleyball competition, the Lady Pacers have won four PBC
Championships (1991, 92, 93, 95) and three PBC Tournament Titles (1991, 92, 96).
