SAVANNAH, GA--USC Aiken (8-13, 3-5 PBC)
dropped their fifth consecutive Peach Belt Conference volleyball match
on Saturday afternoon 3-0 to Armstrong Atlantic State (12-9, 5-2 PBC)
in Savannah, GA. Game scores were 30-21, 30-27, and 30-27. On Friday,
the Lady Pacers were blanked 3-0 (30-15, 30-15, 30-17) at the hands of
the eighth-ranked North Florida Lady Ospreys (16-1, 6-0 PBC).
After starting the season 3-0 in conference play, the Lady Pacers are on a five-game
skid.
In Saturday’s match, USC Aiken hit a solid .215 including double-digit
kill totals by Jenny Lloyd and Amy Long, but killed their chances of an upset
with 18 service errors. The Lady Pacers did tally seven aces, three by Long,
but gave up 11 aces to the Lady Pirates, their second highest total of the season.
Lloyd recorded a match-high 15 kills and three blocks. Long registered 12 kills
to just one error in 22 total attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. Freshman
Cheryl Barcas had 36 assists and seven digs.
Ashley Lavender led AASU with 12 kills, three blocks, and three aces. Shannon
Tracey added 27 assists and six digs. AASU hit .290 as a team and out blocked
USCA 7.0 to 5.5.
In Friday’s match at North Florida, the #8 Lady Ospreys were too much for
the Lady Pacers. USCA hit a negative .031 for the match while UNF hit an impressive
.459. The Lady Pacers did not record a single block and were beaten in the service
ace column 10 to five.
Long and Lloyd each had five kills to lead the Lady Pacers. Allison O’Neill
had the match’s only double-digit kill night with 14 for UNF.
USC Aiken returns home to host Newberry College in a non-conference contest on
Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 PM.
