MONTEVALLO, AL--USC Aiken’s volleyball
squad lost three of four matches this weekend at the University of Montevallo
Coca-Cola Classic. The Lady Pacers began with a 3-1 (25-30, 25-30, 30-26,
20-30) loss to Carson-Newman College on Friday. USCA defeated Lynn University
3-1 (21-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-24) in Friday’s second match. On Saturday
Coach Will Condon’s team fell to West Alabama 3-1 (33-35, 28-30,
30-28, 29-31) and Montevallo 3-0 (23-30, 24-30, 20-30). USC Aiken’s
record moves to 5-8 on the season.
Jenny Lloyd (Fife, Wash.) led the Lady Pacers with 13 kills in the loss to Carson-Newman.
Jennifer Holmes led the Lady Eagles with a match-high 16 kills.
Two players finished with double digit kill totals in USCA’s win over Lynn
University. Amy Long (Redlands, Calif.) hit .367 with a match-high 15 kills and
11 digs. Jessica Lane (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 11 kills.
After two sub-par matches, Lloyd got on track against West Alabama with a match-high
24 kills and a .200 attack percentage. Rachel Dalitz (Orange, Calif.) added 48
assists to go along with three aces and 12 digs. Courtney Leonard led West Alabama
with 18 kills, a .500 attack percentage and eight digs.
Lloyd scored a match-high 16 kills again in the Lady Pacers’ match against
Montevallo. Long contributed another 10 kills, along with two aces, four digs
and five blocks. Alice Persinova’s 13 kills led the Lady Falcons. She also
served four aces, had 12 digs and three blocks.
The Lady Pacers will play one more non-conference match before the Peach Belt
Conference season begins. USCA will travel to Clinton, S.C., on Tuesday to face
Presbyterian College at 7:00 p.m.
