Maitland and Linde Lead Pacers to Fourth Place Finish at Wingate Invitational
WINGATE, N.C. - Nicole Maitland and Jani Linde both finished in the top 10 to lead USC Aiken to a fourth place finish as a team at the 6K 2009 Wingate Invitational on Saturday morning.
Maitland (Chapin, S.C./Chapin) led the Pacers in an event in 2009 for the first time at the Wingate Invitational with a fifth place finish. The junior concluded the event with a time of 25:39. The time was just seconds off her 6K personal best time of 25:09.
USC Aiken senior Jani Linde (Columbia, S.C./Dublin Coffman) was just behind Maitland with a time of 25:53. The time left her in seventh place in the event. It was also her personal best time, easily besting her previous personal best 6K time of 27:16.
Linde has now finished in the top 10 individually in all three Pacer cross country events in the 2009 campaign.
Pacer freshman Nancy Meabon (Charlotte, N.C./Hickory Grove Christian) ended her morning by finishing in 23rd with a time of 28:40.
The Pacers had a team total average time of 28:13 at the event.
Anderson claimed top honors at the 2009 Wingate Invitational with a total team time average of 26:06. The first and second place individual finishers in the event were both from Anderson. Whitney Bishop was the individual winner with a time of 24:07. She was the only runner in the invitational to best the 25-minute mark.
The Pacers have next weekend off. They will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Jaguar Invitational in Augusta, Ga. The event is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.
