Pacers Stride into Region Rankings

NDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's volleyball team is currently 10th in the latest Southeast Region poll for the 2010 season, the NCAA Division II volleyball committee announced Thursday.

USC Aiken is currently 14-11 overall in the 2010 season with a 12-9 region record. The Pacers are third in the Peach Belt Conference currently with a league record of 6-4.

The Pacers are riding a season-high, seven-match winning streak heading into the final stretch of their league schedule, including three home tilts, two this weekend, at the Convocation Center against some of the toughest competition in the extremely tough Peach Belt Conference.

USC Aiken will first welcome the Saints of regionally second-ranked Flagler College on Friday, Oct. 29 for a 7 p.m. PBC match at the Convocation Center.

The very next day, the Pacers will welcome former head skipper Will Condon and the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State for a 2 p.m. home league match Saturday afternoon. The match with the Pirates will serve as USC Aiken's senior day.

Wingate is currently ranked as the top team in the Southeast Region with an overall and region record of 21-1 as all of the Bulldogs' matches have come against region opposition this season.

There are currently two other Peach Belt teams in the most recent region rankings with current PBC No. 1 Flagler ranked second. The Saints defeated USC Aiken twice this season heading into Friday night's match, but the feisty Pacers were the only team last season to defeat the Saints in regular season play. USC Aiken claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over Flagler within the Convocation Center last September.

The other Peach Belt school in the current region rankings, current PBC No. 2 Montevallo, is ranked fifth in the region with an overall record of 16-10 and 15-7 in region play. The Falcons downed USC Aiken earlier in the season at the 2010 USC Aiken Volleyball in a close 3-2 league match, but the Pacers will have a chance to avenge the loss as they close out their season by traveling to Montevallo, Ala on Friday, Nov. 5 for their final match of the season.

Tusculum is third in the most recent region ranking with Lincoln Memorial fourth. Lees-McRae (sixth), Carson-Newman (seventh), Anderson (eighth) and Lenoir-Rhyne (ninth) finish out the rest of the teams in the top-10.
