Maassen Selected South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student Athlete of the Week
AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken women's volleyball player Emily Maassen was chosen as the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 3, 2010.
A freshman from Ellisville, Mo., Maassen recorded a team-best 34 kills and 12 total blocks including two solo blocks in three matches last week against some tough competition. She ended her week hitting a respectable .259 and is currently 10th in the Peach Belt Conference in hitting percentage with a .243 hitting percentage.
In USC Aiken's win over Augusta State Wednesday night, Maassen recorded a career-high 14 kills and three total blocks while ending the match with a .281 hitting percentage.
The left-handed outside hitter then backed up that performance by knocking down 12 kills and seven total blocks in the Pacers' match against NAIA powerhouse Embry-Riddle Saturday evening en route to hitting an impressive .423.
