Lukralle Tabbed to All-Southeast Region Team
SAVANNAH, Ga. – After a record-breaking season, University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball player Samantha Lukralle picked up her final postseason plaudit for the 2010 season as she was named to the 2010 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Second Team.
This is the fourth postseason accolade for the Pacers’ libero who was named the second team’s libero/defensive specialist.
The Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for October, Lukralle was named the Peach Belt Conference Libero of the Year earlier this month and was also named to the 2010 PBC Volleyball All-Tournament team. She was also tabbed a 2010 PBC All-Academic selection by the league office.
A sophomore from Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lukralle was just one of two Pacers to have seen action in all 127 sets and 31 matches for USC Aiken during the 2010 season.
She ended her 2010 campaign in the top-10 in four different conference categories including leading the PBC in total digs (634), fourth in the PBC in digs per set (4.99), tied for fourth in total service aces (45) and 10th in the conference with .35 service ace per set.
Her 634 digs in the 2010 season eclipsed USC Aiken’s previous school record for most digs in a single season (523) by over 100 digs; a mark she set as a freshman last year.
Only three times this season did Lukralle not record double-digit digs, having corralled in 20 or more digs in 17 matches including three matches of 30 or more. She recorded a career-high 40 digs in USC Aiken’s 3-2 victory over Augusta State on Sept. 29 which was good enough for 10th all-time in PBC history for most digs in a single match.
During the Pacers’ 3-0 victory over Coker College on Oct. 23, Lukralle set her first school record of the season as she tallied 10 service aces, breaking the previous record of nine service aces in a single match originally set by former Pacer great Roxanna Rivera in 1995. Her 10 service aces were one shy of the league record of 11, leaving her third all-time in the PBC for most aces in a match.
She set her second school record of the season, third or her career, during USC Aiken’s home match against PBC No. 1 Flagler College on Oct. 29; this time eclipsing her own record for most digs in a single season with three matches remaining in the regular season.
In total, four other conference players from two league schools were named to the two teams of the All-Region squad with Flagler College’s Meg Weathersby being named the 2010 Region Player of the Year.
The Southeast Region is comprised of schools from Conference Carolinas, the South Atlantic Conference and the Peach Belt Conference. The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
