Four Pacers Selected to Peach Belt Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Four University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball players were tabbed to the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Two Pacers were selected to the first team with Lauren Cedeno (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and Chelsey Kight (Charleston, S.C./West Ashley) both nabbing first team plaudits. USC Aiken's Whitney Tabbert (Stewardson, Ill./Stewardson-Strasburg) was a second team choice, while Megan Disney (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns) was a third team selection.
Cedeno and Tabbert are now two-time recipients of the award as they both claimed PBC All-Academic accolades after the conclusion of the 2008 volleyball season.
A senior setter, Cedeno led the Pacers in 2009 with 781 assists. The assist total placed her in the top six in the PBC. Cedeno finished the year recording 40 or more assists in five matches. Her top match of the year was the 46 assists she collected in a match with Augusta State.
Cedeno's impressive career concluded with her acquiring 2,598 assists in her career in total.
Cedeno was third among Pacers in digs in 2009 with 245 digs. She finished with 10 double-doubles (assists-digs) in 2009.
An All-Peach Belt Conference second t eam performer in 2009, Cedeno currently owns a 3.633 grade point average as a Secondary Education major.
Kight was a sophomore outside hitter for the Pacers in the 2009 season. She concluded her second season in a Pacer uniform with 221 kills in 122 sets played.
Kight finished her sophomore season with 96 digs and 27 blocks.
In the classroom, Kight presently owns a 3.897 GPA as a Nursing major.
A senior setter, Tabbert currently owns a 3.651 GPA as an Exercise and Sports Science major.
Tabbert was second among the Pacers in 2009 with 369 assists. Tabbert's assist tally as a senior helped her conclude her career with 1,404 career assists.
Tabbert ended her four-year career in the Pacer volleyball program with 371 career digs.
A junior outside hitter, Disney ended her junior campaign with 201 kills. The 201 kills in 2009 leave her with 463 kills entering her senior season.
Disney was third among all Pacers in 2009 with 52 blocks.
In the classroom, Disney currently boasts a 3.377 GPA as a Business Administration major.
The team, which was released by the conference office on Tuesday, is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 28 NCAA Division II National Championships. 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. 2009-10 members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
