USC Aiken Ranked Fourth in First Southeast Region Poll of 2009

First NCAA Division II Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team was ranked fourth in the first regional rankings of the 2009 season, the NCAA Division II volleyball committee announced late Thursday evening.

USC Aiken is currently 11-9 in the 2009 season, including 3-5 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Pacers have played all 20 of their matches in region.

USC Aiken has two critical revenge Peach Belt Conference matches this weekend at the Convocation Center with two of their five league losses coming at the hands of their league foes this weekend.

The Pacers welcome PBC foe Francis Marion to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. match tonight (Friday, Oct. 16). The match will be a part of Greek Night at the Convocation Center.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, USC Aiken will play host to PBC foe UNC Pembroke at 3 p.m. The match against the Braves will be Senior Day at the Convocation Center.

Wingate is currently rated as the top ranked team in the Southeast Region. Wingate is 20-1 overall and a perfect 20-0 in the Southeast Region.

USC Aiken has bested the two PBC teams rated above them in the region in Flagler and Armstrong Atlantic State.

The Pacers downed region No. 2 Flagler, 3-2, at the Convocation Center on Sept. 18. The next day, USC Aiken took down region No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State, 3-1, at the Convocation Center. The Pacers will face the Saints of Flagler once again on Oct. 30 in St. Augustine, Fla. USC Aiken will take on the AASU Pirates on Oct. 31 in Savannah, Ga.

The fifth-ranked team in the region is Catawba. USC Aiken defeated the Indians, 3-1, at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Sept. 5. The match was the Pacers' final of the 2009 USCA Volleyball Invitational.

In total, five PBC teams are in the first region poll of the 2009 season with Montevallo (ninth) and Lander (10th) also in the top 10 in the region.
