Spice, Cedeno and Tabbert Chosen PBC All-Academic

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Three University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball players were chosen to the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Danielle Spice (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central) was selected to the first team, while Lauren Cedeno (Jacksonville, Fla./West Georgia) and Whitney Tabbert (Stewardson, Ill./Stewardson-Strasburg) were picked to the second team.

Spice is a senior Business Administration major who currently owns a 3.75 GPA. She led the Pacers and was fourth in the PBC in the 2008 season with 447 digs. The USC Aiken libero, who played in a team-high tying 112 games in 2008, finished her USC Aiken career with 774 career digs.

Cedeno is a junior Secondary Education major with a 3.58 GPA. Cedeno was sixth in the PBC last season with 581 assists (5.19 assists per game). The 581 assists left the West Georgia transfer having recorded 500 or more assists in both of her seasons in the Pacer volleyball program. She ended her sophomore campaign with a career-best 992 assists.

Tabbert is majoring in Exercise and Sports Science and she currently boasts a 3.65 GPA. Tabbert finished just behind Cedeno in the assists category with 487 (4.35 per game) in 2008. The 487 assists helped her to surpass the 1,000 assist mark for her career as she enters her final season in a Pacer uniform with 1,035 assists to her credit.

The Volleyball All-Academic Team in the PBC is part of a year-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must (1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; (2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and (3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
