Hermens Named South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken women’s tennis player Manon Hermens was named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 25, 2011.

A newcomer for the Pacers in the 2011-12 athletic year, Hermens (Bordeaux, France/Université de Bordeaux) won her side of the bracket and advanced to the finals of the Women’s Singles Draw at the USC Upstate Fall Classic

Hermens won four matches to advance to the finals. All four of her wins came against NCAA Division I opposition as she defeated players from USC Upstate, Wofford, East Tennessee State and Presbyterian to advance to the final.

In the semifinals, the sophomore bested Presbyterian’s Paige Oelke 7-6, 6-1. In the finals, East Tennessee State’s Karina Kedzo held off Hermens 6-2, 6-1 to claim the USC Upstate Fall Classic Women’s title.

The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week award honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport in 2011-12 for their hard work and effort.
