USC Aiken Pulls Away in Singles for 6-3 Victory Over North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – In its second match in as many days, USC
Aiken’s women’s tennis team was still able to secure a
critical Peach Belt Conference and regional victory on Saturday
with a 6-3 victory over North Georgia at the North Georgia Tennis
Complex.
The win moves the Pacers back to .500 on the season at 6-6. USC
Aiken, which has won four of its last five, is now 2-4 in one of
the best NCAA Division II tennis conferences in the nation in the
Peach Belt Conference.
The loss drops North Georgia to 6-7 on the 2010 campaign. The
Saints are also 2-4 in the PBC.
The Pacers opened things on Saturday by earning wins at No. 2 and
No. 3 doubles. USC Aiken’s Stephanie Humphrey (Harpendon,
England/Sir John Lawes) and Maria Angel (Rosario, Argentina/San
Juan Bautista de la Salle) claimed a 8-5 victory over North
Georgia’s Juliana Chiong and Jordan Poole in the second
doubles flight, while USC Aiken’s Ida Sandberg (Uppsala,
Sweden/Celsiusskolan) and Bridgette Gale (St. Augustine, Fla./St.
Augustine) defeated North Georgia’s Ashley Marie Jordan and
Sara Vaughters at No. 3 doubles by the score of 8-2.
USC Aiken surrendered the first two singles flights before earning
the win at No. 3-No. 6 singles. All four of the Pacers’
singles wins came in straight sets.
The Pacers next welcome rival and Peach Belt Conference foe Augusta
State to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Tuesday, March 23. The
match is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
