Westphal has three saves in Pacers Loss
AIKEN, SC – Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Westphal had three saves in the 5-0 loss to Peach Belt Conference foe No. 5 Columbus State on Saturday October 25 at the Pacer Pit. The Pacers drop to 3-12-2 overall and 1-5-1 in PBC action while the Cougars improve to 15-3-0 overall and 6-0-0 in PBC play.
The Cougars scored their first goal in the third minute when Pacers goalie Westphal came out to attack CSU’s Gina Goforth but she managed to get the ball up and over her body and into the net.
Melinda Bush had one good shot that managed to get passed the goalie in the 26th minute to put the Cougars up 2-0. About ten minutes later, Westphal came out to challenge CSU’s Jordan McKenzie, who kicked the ball slowly into the net fort he third goal of the period.
Late in the second period, Kelsey Ford had a corner kick cleared out by the Pacers only to have it come back to her and into the net. Two minutes later, Goforth scores her second goal of the day when she took a shot even with the net and into the right-back corner of the net.
The Pacers recorded two shots on the day by senior midfielder Lauren Myers and freshman midfielder Eryn Gable.
USCA will next take on Belmont-Abbey at Belmont, NC on Tuesday October 28 at 2:00 p.m. The Cardinal and Navy will return home for its last regular season game and ‘Senior Day” on Saturday November 1 when the Pacers take on UNC Pembroke. First whistle is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the Pacer Pit.
