Pacers Ranked 16th in National Poll
LILBURN, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team moved up two spots to 16th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
The Pacers were ranked 17th in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. In the first regular season poll of the 2011-12 on Nov. 22, USC Aiken checked in at No. 23. The Pacers were ranked 21st on Nov. 29. Last week, USC Aiken was ranked 18th.
USC Aiken (7-1, 1-0 PBC) is one of two Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top 25. Clayton State is the highest ranked PBC school at No. 5.
USC Aiken enters its next game having won six straight contests.
USC Aiken has been in the Top-25 for at least one week in four
of the last five seasons.
The Pacers were ranked as high as eighth nationally and finished
the year ranked a program-best 13th in the final poll of the
2010-11 season. The Pacers would close the year by being
ranked in the final 12 polls of the 2011-12 season.
USC Aiken has now been ranked in 17 straight USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
The USC Aiken women’s basketball team also figured prominently in the inaugural NCAA Division II women’s basketball national statistical report.
The Pacer women entered the week third in the nation in field goal percentage (47.5 percent).
USC Aiken began the week sixth in the nation in assists per game (19.6) and eighth in assist to turnover ratio (1.16).
Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C./Merrimack College) commenced the week second in the nation in field goal percentage at 70.5 percent. Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) opened this week fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (53.6 percent).
USC Aiken next will play its final league game of the 2011 portion of its schedule against Armstrong Atlantic State at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Convocation Center. The game against the Pirates concludes a season-long four-game homestand for the Pacers.
USC Aiken will then head into its holiday break by traveling to play Anderson for the second time in less than a week. The two will meet for the final time in the 2011-12 regular season at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 in Anderson, S.C. The Anderson game on Dec. 17 will also mark USC Aiken’s final non-conference game of the year.
