Brandt Finalizes Newcomers With Addition of Paphites
AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken head women's basketball coach Mike Brandt announced the addition of Andrea Paphites on Thursday, June 16, 2011.
Paphites will be the fourth and final newcomer on the USC Aiken's women's basketball roster in the 2011-12 season. She joins prep standouts Emily O'Rourke (Baraboo, Wis.) and Mackenzie Reese (Madison, Wis.), who signed with the Pacers out of high school during the early signing period in November of 2010. Brittany Hill recently transferred to USC Aiken after spending just one season at Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Paphites is a natural athlete who can play three positions in point guard, shooting guard and small forward.
"I am extremely pleased with our ability to sign a player of Andrea's stature," remarked Brandt. "She comes from one of the top high schools in the country. She played AAU for one of the best teams in the country in Boo Williams, and she has fantastic statistics from her high school career. She is a great person and has a wonderful personality. She can flat out play the game and is very versatile in her ability to play the one, two or three positions."
Paphites joins the USC Aiken women's basketball program out of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Va.
A six-year varsity letterman, Paphites averaged 14 points, seven assists, five steals and five rebounds per game in her prep career. The combo guard amassed over 1,200 points and 1,000 assists in her high school career. She also collected 20 double-doubles in her high school career.
For her efforts she was given the Coaches Award by Princess Anne head coach Darnell Dozier as a senior.
During her senior season in 2010-11, Paphites was selected to the Virginia High School all-star team that competed against the North Carolina All-Stars. She was also chosen to the Virginia High School League East-West All-Star team.
During her senior year, she also helped lead Princess Anne to the Virginia AAA state championship.
Paphites joins a USC Aiken women's basketball program that had a banner year in the 2010-11 season. The Pacers finished 13th in the final USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll of the 2010-11 season.
The 2010-11 season was truly a year to remember for the USC Aiken women's basketball team.
The record-setting year concluded with USC Aiken having won a school-record 27 games. The Pacers also won their first ever NCAA Tournament game and claimed a share of the Peach Belt Conference East Division title. The Pacers closed out the year having won 22 of their last 26 games.
