Brandt Announces Addition of Hill
AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken head women's basketball coach Mike Brandt announced the addition of Brittany Hill to the 2011-12 Pacer women's basketball team on Thursday, Apr. 28, 2011.
Hill transfers to USC Aiken after spending just one season at Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Hill is one of three newcomers on the roster for the USC Aiken women's basketball team in the 2011-12 season. She joins Emily O'Rourke (Baraboo, Wis.) and Mackenzie Reese (Madison, Wis.), who singed with the Pacers out of high school during the early signing period in November of 2010.
"I am very excited to have Brittany become a Pacer," noted Brandt. "She should fit in well with our team both on and off the court. She is strong in her academics, is a classy person, and has many quality attributes you would want a point guard to have. I believe she will make the people around her better players – which is something a good point guard needs to do. Plus, an added bonus is that she is obviously able to score from that position.
"We now have three newcomers that should be able to contribute to our team immediately - as we strive to take more steps in the right direction."
A 5-foot-8 point guard out of Mechanicsville, Va., Hill was just one of three players to play in every game for Quinnipiac in the 2010-11 season. Hill, who made four starts for the Bobcats, averaged 14.8 minutes per game.
Hill dished out a team second-best 52 assists, recording at least one assist in 20 of Quinnipiac's 30 games in the 2010-11 season. She averaged 2.2 points, 1.7 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game in total on the season.
Hill had a career-high eight assists in a game with Mount St. Mary's on Jan. 4, 2011.
Prior to joining Quinnipiac for the 2010-11 season, Hill lettered in soccer and basketball at Atlee High School.
While at Atlee, Hill led her basketball team to a conference tournament championship and the district regular season championship in 2006-07 and 2008-09. Overall, Atlee was 76-19 during her time with the program. She was the team captain during her junior and senior seasons.
Hill scored over 1,200 points in her prep career. As a senior, she averaged a district-best 21 points to go along with a team-best eight rebounds, five assists and four steals per game.
For her efforts she was named the Atlee women's basketball team Most Valuable Player. She was also named to the 2009-10 Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro Team. She was an All-Central Region Team member as a sophomore and senior as well as an All Capital District selection as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Hill was Atlee's goalkeeper during her senior year of high school. She helped guide her team to a 17-2 record and a Capital District Regular Season and Playoff championship.
In just one year as a soccer player in high school, Hill set the Atlee single season record for fewest goals allowed in a season and most shutouts in a season. She was chosen the Capital District Player of the Year in 2010.
Equally strong in the classroom, Hill was named to the All-Academic team in the central region for women's basketball as a sophomore and a senior. She was named to the Capital District All-Academic team in women's soccer in 2010.
Hill joins a USC Aiken women's basketball program that had a banner year in the 2010-11 season. The Pacers finished 13th in the final USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll of the 2010-11 season.
The 2010-11 season was truly a year to remember for the USC Aiken women's basketball team.
The record-setting year concluded with USC Aiken having won a school-record 27 games. The Pacers also won their first ever NCAA Tournament game and claimed a share of the Peach Belt Conference East Division title. The Pacers closed out the year having won 22 of their last 26 games.
