Johnson and Legg Named to Peach Belt All-Conference Womens Basketball Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. - USC Aiken women's basketball
players Morgan Johnson and Meredith Legg were named to the Peach
Belt Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference Team on Tuesday,
March 3.
Johnson (Marietta, Ga./Presbyterian College) was a first team
selection, while Legg (Huntersville, N.C./Hopewell) was tabbed to
the second team.
Johnson concluded the season averaging 12.9 points per game and
8.4 rebounds per game. Her 12.9 points per game were eighth best in
the PBC, while her 8.4 rebounds per game left her fifth in the
league at the conclusion of the regular season.
Johnson in total finished in the top 10 in the Peach Belt
Conference in nine different categories. She was second in the
league in blocks with an average of 2.53 blocks per game.
Johnson was also second in the league in field goal percentage
(55.4 percent), ninth in free throw percentage (75.6 percent),
third in defensive rebounds (5.93 per game) and seventh in minutes
played (30.43 per game).
Johnson led the Pacers in double-doubles with nine on the year.
Johnson twice tied her career high with 23 points, scoring 23
against Armstrong Atlantic State and nationally-ranked
Tusculum.
Johnson had 11 games in total in which she recorded double-digit
rebounds.
Johnson concluded the win over UNC Pembroke at the Convocation
Center a couple weeks ago with five blocks. The five blocks
propelled Johnson into first place all-time in school history in
total blocks.
Johnson, who now has 132 blocks as a Pacer after her three blocks
in the GCSU win last Saturday, passed former record holder Charita
Sims (1990-92), who had 119 blocks in her career. In total, Johnson
now has 168 career blocks if her freshman and sophomore seasons at
PC are included.
Johnson cannot join the 1,000-point club at USC Aiken, but she was
able to surpass 1,000 points in her career in USC Aiken’s
game with Clayton State a few weeks ago. Johnson entered the game
with 995 points and after her 21 in the game she had a total of
1,016 career points. Johnson enters the PBC Tournament with 1,107
career points.
Legg concluded the 2008-09 season averaging 12.7 points per game.
The mark left her ninth in the PBC.
Legg was second in the league in both three-point field goals made
(71) and three-point field goal percentage (40.6 percent). The
three categories were three of four categories in which Legg was in
the top 10 in the PBC as she was also fourth in the conference in
free throw percentage at 80.5 percent.
Legg with her 16 points in the Columbus State game moved into sole
possession of second place in school history in total points with
1,420 career points.
The 16 points helped her pass Christale Spain (1994-98), who was
in second with 1,405 points.
Legg now has 1,452 career points after her 16 in the GCSU win. She
is only 25 points away from overtaking Jami Cornwell (1999-2003)
for the all-time school record in career points. Cornwell ended her
illustrious career with 1,476 points.
Legg became the 14th player in NCAA Division II history to last
Wednesday evening at the Athletics and Fitness Center in Morrow,
Ga.
Already the all-time leader in three-pointers made in Peach Belt
Conference history, Legg entered last Wednesday’s game with
297 made three-pointers in her prestigious career.
