USC Aiken Softball Signs Spires During Early Signing Period

AIKEN, S.C. – Head coach Jerry Snyder and the University of South Carolina Aiken softball team announced the signing of Kaylee Spires to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 17 to end the early signing period.

USC Aiken continues to recruit solid players from North Augusta High School, as the Pacers have seen recent success with former Yellow Jackets and current Pacers Lauren Rickabaugh and Lindsey Jones.

Already a four-year letterwinner heading into her senior year, Spires will join USC Aiken highly decorated having been named to the All-Region team as a sophomore and junior as well as being named to the High School Sports Report All-State team as a sophomore. She was a member of the H.S.S.R. All-Rookie team as a freshman.

As a freshman, Spires set three school records including most hits and most singles in a single season en route to owning an impressive .511 batting average.

“Kaylee will be an excellent addition to our squad in the outfield as well as at the plate,” mused Snyder. “She brings a big bat to our team and is the type of player who could make an impact in the field immediately.”

Spires was the lone signee for the Pacers during the early signing period, joining a Pacer program that has shared much success recently, including having been ranked nationally at some point during the last two seasons. The 2010 Pacers were ranked a softball program preseason-best, 13th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason Top-25 poll, and remained ranked well into the season en route to keeping the Pacers’ current streak of 20-win seasons alive at seven.
