USC Aiken Remains Seventh in Latest Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – In the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings before the official NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 9, the University of South Carolina Aiken softball team is ranked seventh in the Southeast Region rankings.

The Pacers in the seventh spot are virtually assured of a spot in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship as the top eight teams in each region advance to regional play. No team in the Southeast Region has any more games left on their schedule.

The official announcement of the entire NCAA field will not be made though until May 9.

If the Pacers garner a spot in the NCAA field then it will mark USC Aiken’s second appearance in regional play in the last three seasons.

The Pacers earned their first ever NCAA Tournament bid in 2009. USC Aiken concluded 2009 ranked a program-best 12th in the nation.

The 2011 USC Aiken softball team is currently 26-16 in the 2011 season. The Pacers finished play in one of the toughest conferences in Division II softball in the Peach Belt Conference with a record of 9-11.

The hosts of the two four-team regionals that will be contested May 13-15 will not be known until the official selection show on NCAA.com at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 9.

The winner of each of the two four-team regionals will advance to the Super Regionals on May 20-21 at the facility of the highest seed remaining.

The NCAA Division II Softball Championship series will be contested May 26-30 at the Moyer Complex in Salem, Va.

USC Aiken is one of six Peach Belt Conference schools in the latest regional rankings with five of the six in the current top eight. National No. 2 North Georgia is the highest ranked PBC school in the region rankings.
