AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference seventh-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken softball team is set to square off against national No. 22 and PBC No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State in the first round of the 18th Annual Peach Belt Conference Softball Championship.

The 2011 league softball tournament is slated for Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17 at the Freedom Florence Complex in Florence, S.C.

The Pacers and Pirates will be a part of Game 3 on Friday, April 15 with first pitch scheduled to leave the circle at 1:30 p.m.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinal round where they will face the winner of Game 4 between PBC No. 3 Columbus State and PBC No. 6 Georgia College which will be contested simultaneously as the Pacers and Pirates game at 1:30 p.m. The winners will play in the final game of Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Under the double-elimination rules of the tournament, the losing teams of Games 3 and 4 will also meet at 6:30 p.m. to battle for a chance to stay alive and make a run for the championship round to be contested on Sunday, April 17.

USC Aiken begins the league tournament with a 26-14 overall record and a 9-11 mark in league play.

Armstrong Atlantic is currently 28-10 overall with a conference record of 13-7.

The Pacers and Pirates met earlier in the 2011 season on March 10 with Armstrong Atlantic acquiring two narrow 5-4 wins over USC Aiken including one in eight innings.

Last season, the Pacers made a late surge through the tournament field after winning their first game of the tournament over rival Augusta State before falling to tournament host Francis Marion in the next round. Not to be deterred, the Pacers went on from there to down Lander and Armstrong Atlantic State before falling to the Patriots once again, this time in the semifinal round in a narrow 5-4 game.
