Victory Over Gamecocks Highlights Impressive Fall Campaign for Pacer Softball
AIKEN, S.C. - Accentuated by a thrilling victory over the
University of South Carolina, the USC Aiken softball team concluded
its 2010 fall softball campaign with an impressive 7-1 record.
The Pacers swept both of their fall four-team tournaments at J.H.
Satcher Field.
USC Aiken closed out the fall besting the Gamecocks in the second
game of their doubleheader at Beckham Field on the South Carolina
campus on Friday, Oct. 8. The Pacers acquired a 2-1 victory in the
second game.
“We feel like we had an extremely productive fall," said USC
Aiken head softball coach Jerry Snyder. "There really is no
substitute for playing actual games, and we learned a lot about all
of the players on our roster.
“Beating USC was definitely the highlight of the fall season,
and was a great win for our players and our program. The
players worked very hard this fall and deserved it, but more
importantly we hope to build off it this spring, and bring home a
PBC championship.”
In addition to the fall contests, USC Aiken also hosted its first
annual Alumni Softball Game on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The USC Aiken softball squad has shared much success recently,
including having been ranked nationally at some point during the
last two seasons.
The 2010 Pacers were ranked a softball program preseason-best 13th
in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason
Top-25 poll, and remained ranked well into the season before ending
their season with an even record of 23-23 after bowing out of the
2010 PBC Softball Tournament in the PBC Tournament semifinals.
The Pacers have won 20 or more games in a season for the past seven
seasons.
