Locklear Chosen USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken softball player Lauren Locklear was chosen as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on March 29, 2010.

Locklear hit a team-best .400 (8-for-20) to lead USC Aiken to a three-game winning streak to close out the week. In USC Aiken’s three-game winning streak, Locklear was 7-for-12 with five RBIs and four runs scored.

Locklear overall concluded last week slugging .700, while also owning an on-base percentage of .409. In the field, the Pacer shortstop collected 24 assists on the week along with eight putouts.

The Charleston, S.C. native finished USC Aiken’s second game win over Georgia College & State on Wednesday, March 24 by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

In USC Aiken’s week-closing sweep of Columbus State in Columbus, Ga. on Saturday, March 27, the Wando High School product hit .500 (4-for-8) with three RBIs and two runs scored. In the first game of the twinbill, Locklear was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, one home run and one run scored, while she was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in game two. 

The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly created award for the 2009-10 athletic year. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
