Flessate Chosen to PBC Preseason All-Conference Softball Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. - USC Aiken's Toni Flessate has been chosen to the 11-member Peach Belt Conference preseason all-conference softball team.
The team was announced by the league office on Friday, Jan. 22. The team was selected by the league's head coaches. Six of the 11 PBC softball-playing schools had members on the team with the majority going to the defending regular-season and tournament champions at North Georgia, who had six honorees.
Flessate (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford) concluded her junior season in 2009 as an All-Peach Belt Conference performer. She was also selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region second team.
The senior ended the 2009 season posting a 18-8 record in 26 appearances in the circle for the Pacers. She had a Peach Belt Conference-best 1.20 earned run average. In total, Flessate dealt 21 complete games in 2009, acquiring seven shutouts. She ended the year with her opposition hitting just .205 against her.
Flessate struck out 100 batters in 2009, fanning a season-best nine batters in USC Aiken's win over Coker on Mar. 8, 2009.
The Peach Belt Conference pitcher of the Week on Mar. 23 and Apr. 6, Flessate overall had nine five or more strikeout performances in her junior campaign.
Flessate threw one no-hitter in Peach Belt Conference action in 2009, holding Georgia Southwestern hitless in a Pacer win on Apr. 4, 2009.
Not just stout in the circle, Flessate hit .302 with two home runs last year for the Pacers. She collected 23 RBIs in 2009.
Flessate is one of the tops in school history in earned run average (2.11) and she is currently tied for the most shutouts (14) in school history. Her opponents own a school second-best .220 career batting average against her.
The USC Aiken softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Peach Belt Conference softball preseason coaches poll, which was released on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from the league office.
USC Aiken opens its 2010 campaign by playing host to the 2010 Pacer Invitational, which will feature West Virginia Wesleyan, Alderson-Broaddus and Augusta State in addition to the Pacers. The two-day tournament on Saturday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 7 will feature the Pacers playing a doubleheader each day. On Saturday, Feb. 6, USC Aiken will take on West Virginia Wesleyan at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. before Augusta State and Alderson-Broaddus play a twinbill directly after, beginning at 2 p.m.
The final day of the Pacer Invitational will begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday with the Pacers hosting a doubleheader with Alderson-Broaddus. Augusta State will play a doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan following USC Aiken's twinbill with Alderson-Broaddus.
