Gobbi Named South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men’s tennis player Lucas Gobbi was selected as the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on March 21, 2011.

Gobbi was a perfect 3-0 in singles action last week for the Pacers. He was a perfect 2-0 against Peach Belt Conference opposition.

The Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil native opened last week by besting Belmont Abbey’s Mario Nunez 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles on Friday, March 18.

One day later on Saturday, March 19, the freshman downed North Georgia’s Adrien Saulais 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

In USC Aiken’s match with national No. 11 Lander on Sunday, March 20, Gobbi claimed USC Aiken’s lone singles point with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Carlos Marques at No. 4 singles.

The 3-0 singles week improved Gobbi to a team-best 8-4 in singles in the 2011 season.

In doubles, Gobbi was 2-1 last week, including a perfect 2-0 with partner Juan Manuel Guglielmeti (Mar del Plata, Argentina). The tandem is now a team-best 7-2 in the 2011 season.
