USC Aiken Mens Tennis to Make Fifth Straight NCAA Tournament Appearance

INDIANAPOLIS – USC Aiken men’s tennis learned on
Wednesday evening that the program will be making its fifth
consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as they were selected to
participate in one of the two Southeast Region six-team preliminary
rounds as announced by the NCAA Division II Men’s Tennis
Committee during a live selection show on NCAA.com on Wednesday,
April 28.
The 16 preliminary-round tournaments will be conducted May 6-8,
with the winner of each preliminary-round tournament advancing to
the finals at Sanlando Tennis Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The
finals are hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and
Rollins College and they will be held May 12-15. The championships
consist of a 16-team single elimination tournament.
The Pacers will be traveling to Columbus, Ga. to play in the Columbus State Southeast Region bracket. The Cougars of Columbus State (16-4) will be the top seed with USC Aiken facing off against a familiar foe in rival Augusta State (10-6) in the first round for the right to take on the Cougars. The Pacers and Jaguars will play at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 6.
The winner of the USC Aiken-Augusta State match will move on to face the host Cougars at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 7. The final of the regional will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 8.
The 26th-ranked team in NCAA Division II, USC Aiken enters the regional with a record of 11-11 on the 2010 season. The Pacers, who are participating in their 10th NCAA Tournament as a program, enter the regional having won three of their last four matches.
The Pacers and Jaguars have squared off already this season with Augusta State earning a narrow 5-4 victory over the Pacers at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Mar. 23. Just four days later, USC Aiken fell 6-3 to Columbus State at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
