Pacers Conclude Season in First Round of NCAA Tournament
COLUMBUS, Ga. – The 26th-ranked USC Aiken men’s
tennis team concluded its 2010 spring campaign with a 5-1 loss to
rival 18th-ranked Augusta State in the first round of the NCAA
Division Southeast-2 Regional at the Blackmon Tennis Center.
The Pacers conclude their 2010 spring season with an 11-12 record.
Augusta State improved to 11-6 on the year with the victory and
they will next play regional host and 10th-ranked Columbus state at
10 a.m. tomorrow (Friday).
In its fifth consecutive NCAA regional appearance, USC
Aiken’s lone win in the match came at No. 1 doubles with the
nationally eighth-ranked tandem of Gregory Andrade and Juan Xavier
Ponce besting Augusta State’s Bernardo Fernandes and Henrique
Boturao, 9-7.
The Pacers would drop the next two doubles matches to enter
singles down 2-1. Augusta State would successfully win three
straight singles matches to earn their second victory of the year
over the Pacers.
