USC Aiken Men Continue Winning Ways Against Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The 26th-ranked USC Aiken men’s tennis team improved to .500 on the season with an important 7-2 victory over Brevard on Tuesday afternoon at the Brevard College Tennis Complex. The Pacer women were unable to move to .500 in their match as they fell 6-2 to the Tornados.

In their quest for an NCAA regional bid, the USC Aiken men, who have now won three of their last four matches, are currently 10-10 on the 2010 season. Brevard with the loss drops to 6-10 on the season. On the women’s side, the USC Aiken women conclude their 2010 season with a record of 9-11. Brevard improved to 12-5 with the victory over the Pacers on Tuesday.

The Pacer men were only able to secure one victory in doubles play with the nationally seventh-ranked tandem of Gregory Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Sergio D'Amorim) and Juan Xavier Ponce (Miami, Fla. /Drury University) winning at No. 1 doubles over Brevard’s Dorian Feron and Scott McCormick, 8-5.

USC Aiken acquired all six of its wins in singles in straight sets.

Maria Angel (Rosario, Argentina/San Juan Bautista de la Salle) and Stephanie Humphrey (Harpendon, England/Sir John Lawes) picked up USC Aiken’s lone win in doubles on the women’s side at No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Claire Dillman and Merek Slagle. Angel collected the Pacers’ lone win at singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brevard’s Sara Douglas.

The Pacer men will now conclude their 2010 regular season with a 3 p.m. road date against Wingate on Thursday, Apr. 15 in Wingate, N.C.
